I am thinking of joining the navy?

I heard that I would have to start out as a petty officer. I girl I met that had dated other sailors said that petty officers have to do the laundry for the officers, clean the ships toilets and wash 1000 of dishes. I really like the sailors uniform as it makes me feel important but being a petty officer sounds really bad. Does anyone know what it is like to be a petty officer?

when you enlist. you dont start off as a petty officer, you start of as a seaman or airman. Which is e1-e3. I'm a second class petty officer e-5 in the navy right now and my job is a supervisor. When i was a airman, i got stuck only doing mess duty. When i made third class, i didn't get stuck doing crap jobs anymore... More

You wouldn't be petty officer unless you have a bachelors. It's the boastwains mates who do all that shit. Petty officer is not the shit tier they are officers so they dont have to sleep with the others in birthing they get officers quarters

Make a pros and cons sheet when in doubt. but that one girls advice doesn't compare to the actuall duties of the NAVY. You need to negotiate a good contract, it's better if you have an associates degree before entering. But you have your job right after training school which usually could come with the opportunity to... More

A petty officer is a NCO or non commissioned officer. There is no way in he'll you can start out as one. Now it is possible to enter at Seaman E-3. Also your serving your country. Why should it matter what you do, you do what the navy tells you to do.
