If the UK were to get rid of the monarchy, would the royal family be ordinary people?

People of their importance at the moment would never be ordinary, they would always be extra ordinary. I doubt that they would have to get jobs out of necessity. They are independently, very wealthy. No. They would live, as other deposed royalty do, in places like Switzerland, where, for whatever reason, they are allowed to continue to live a privileged lifestyle.

They might have to get jobs but most people forget they are independently rich and any abolition of the Monarchy could return to them some or all of the Crown or Duchy estates. I think the Queen and many of the other royal would have felt they had failed their duty to their country.

Really....Anne and Charles already do. They are smart and have enterprises set up that occupy their time and efforts when they are not out "royalling". They also have private residences that they would just continue to live in full time... More

Plenty of monarchies in various countries have been abolished. The members of these former monarchies often work, but they are often still known by their titles, even though in some of the countries in question, it's actually illegal to use those titles... More
