Can my girlfriend be added to my health insurance policy?

Hello. I live in Florida and have health insurance with Coventry Health Care of Florida (I have an open access plan). My girl friend was layed off in January and lost her health insurance. Is it possible to put her on my policy?

Your spouse and children can be added to your health insurance. A girlfriend can not be added. She will have to get her own insurance coverage. If she expects to get another job that offers benefits she might consider a temporary health insurance policy.

You will need to check with your HR Department; but the general rule for most companies is no unless your married.

Not as a girlfriend. Possibly as a domestic partner. Check the terms and conditions of your policy, or call HR. Even then, you generally have to wait for open enrollment.

Yes, as soon as you marry her.

If you marry her, then probably yes. Otherwise, probably no.
