If a product you want in not on the shelves in a store, can you ask for someone to check the storage for it?

Sometimes I go to Rite Aid or CVS to buy items, but many times the items are not on the shelves. They do sell them, they just run out. If I were to ask somebody in the store that I want that product, is it their job to go to the back of the store or something and look for it so I can buy it?

Of course you can ask and since the goal is to sell product, they will probably go look for it.

Ofc! Its called customer service but most lazy a$$ will tell you the are out of stock without looking. And yes you can buy it unless its damaged or out of date.

I've asked before and gotten told no, and I've asked and gotten told yes. I'm guessing the reason for this is that they don't have to do that legally, but some employees will do it for you because they're bored or something.
