Why are the British people so apathetic?

Successive Governments have lied, cheated, robbed the British people. The British people have spent their money on Chinese goods, destroying British industry and jobs. Utility companies fleece the Nation every year, and the British just pay up. Retailers rob consumers with phony sales of garbage products. Have we always been like this, is it a product of dumbing down of education, have we lost the will to care?

Such is the unprecedented success of media brainwashing in Britain. A failing education system that churns out illiterate young people year on year and an agenda-driven national press. What more could a lying, morally bankrupt tyranny want... More

This isn't just Britain, you should look at all "Civilized nations" and notice that they all have some sort of apathy in them. Then in contrast look at third world countries, and notice they have a higher level of honor and respect among their people. Money changes people, might be the answer your looking for.

We buy goods from china because china can sell them at a price lower than ours because they can pay their workers below minimum wage, no holidays, and no pension.

I think you need to try and consider the alternatives. Corruption is present everywhere and when it comes down to it, the British system is nowhere near as corrupt as many other nations. Just look at Berlusconi. Also whilst you are considering all the places in the world where the people are worse off than us, try and... More

It's not just Britain, U.S. is the same. The Western World has become a passive society of underachievers who suffer from extreme white guilt and this need to "play nice" no matter how many times we're bent over. Be thankful, Canada is far worse ... Girl Scouts could take them over.

It's not just British people. We buy chinese products because they tend to be cheaper, we are at the mercy of utility companies until there is compitition or the home owner can provide their own energy. Governments have always lied, it's about telling the people what they want to hear to get elected, then the reality... More

You have to understand that even though the things you have mentioned have all gone on and continue to go on day by day, Britain and its people are wealthy. even contented , which is what fuels apathy, If life was a struggle for the majority instead of a minority then apathy would dissolve and radicalism would replace...
