What do you think about this plan to force a balanced budget?

No Constitutional Amendment needed. We get a law passed saying that if there is not a balanced budget with nothing added to the debt: 1) Congress would receive no salary or other expense reimbursement. 2) The President, Vice President and staff get no salary or expense reimbursement 3) After the balanced budget is passed they will not receive any refund of the money they lost I figure if they cannot do their jobs they should not get paid. This would be a lot easier to implement than any Constitutional Amendment. How they balance the budget would be the only debate (taxes, cuts).

The only way "we get a law passed" is for the Congress to do so, and the President to sign it. Chances of that happening = zero. Congress isn't going to pass a law suspending their own pay. They won't even vote to forgo their automatic pay raise every year.

Hm... well it might be illegal not to pay someone when they are working, but threatening salary reductions and taking away benefits until they pass a balanced budget and such might work better. The problem with immediately balancing the budget though is that it's so bloated now, it's not like the late 90's when we didn... More
