What do I need to become a web designer?

I am getting a diploma in Web Designing and i was wondering what all do i need to know to get a job doing this? do i need to learn java and ColdFusion? is it that necessary? because i just found out that my course doesn't cover that! i am super p*ssed! Please help! I want answers from people who are web designers that work for a company know what is necessary to do this job. thank you!

You need to be a good designer and artist. You need to have a good sense of what looks good, what will work for a specific client, and how best to display different types of information. You don't need to worry about the technical side beyond content formatting, although you should fully understand it. You need to be... More

Yes the professional web designer knows everything to do, say you have someone who is very specific on what their website will look like YOU need to make that happen! You also need to know what to do because they don't know anything about making a website if they did they would be making it themselves wouldn't they?

Okay Cold Fusion and Java are the technology used for web development not specifically meant for designing. All you need to learn is HTML, Photoshop and Flash.
