Manager who is not my manager giving me work? What to do?
There is a manager at work who is always going over my manager and giving me work. He has been spoken to many times about not going through the proper channels. I don't mind the work, but I don't know what the expectation is - if I'm expected to do as he asks, or if he needs to talk to my manager first before giving me work. How do I address this issue with my supervisor?

he is in a higher position than you, and your manager does not against it, if you do not do the staff as he ordered, your job is in danger.

Tell your supervisor what is happening, that you are looking for clarity, and that your understanding is that your manager is the person who approves the work you do. Then let them confirm what the expectation is.

Your immediate supervisor is in charge of you and your work load, not that other manager. If this guy has you doing other jobs, he is taking you away from the work that your supervisor has you doing. Your supervisor is accountable to his/her own supervisor about the work being done by his/her workers... More
