Is it possible to become a police officer with a DUI charge?

I want to be a police officer but am about to be charged with a DUI. It's been a dream of mine for a long time and I've been putting off school for this for 2 years because I've been fighting it, but I lost. ( I was not the driver but was in the car while it was running :( ) anyways, should I give up? Or is it possible for me to still be a cop?

It is possible, but not likely any time soon. Getting police officer jobs is becoming more and more competitive. When departments hire, they usually have several applicants to choose from. All else being equal, an applicant that has not been convicted of DUI would be hired before you in all likelihood. I would start... More
