How to become a police officer and eventually detective?

Hi I'm fifteen and am thinking about being a police officer/detective when I grow up. How would I go about doing that? I plan on going to college to get a four year degree in criminal justice, by the way.

Dont bother with the degree its useless, all you need to do is be fit to be a police officer all that is required is simple Pass civil service test Run 1.5 miles in 15 minutes or less Do 30 push ups Do 30 sit ups Have drivers lic. No criminal history

The degree; while nice, is not mandatory/necessary to become a police officer. I would stay in shape, stay out of trouble, and work on your "verbal judo" (it's a book...read it) skills. Don't listen to Eric. First, get a degree in something. It does not have to be a degree in criminal justice. Some of the people in my academy class, had degrees in computer technology, economics, law etc.... Second of all a civil service exam doesn't exist in all the US states.
