How to obtain a Aircraft sheet metal worker OR aircraft mechanic qualification?

a friend of mine has been working in the aircraft industry for a VERY long time now. He has studied and has N1 - N5 qualifications. He would like to further his education so that he may be qualified as an aircraft sheet metal worker or aircraft mechanic. Currently he is already doing a job that requires these qualifications - as he has YEARS of experience behind him. The place where he works has promised that they will help him obtain these qualifications, but has delayed in fulfilling this promise :( We suspect they are delaying this, as they do not want to increase his salary. They told him to obtain a specific book and write down all the experience he has so far. He has done this, but they still are still delaying. Now, we are looking for a way to obtain the qualification without working through the company. Is it possible to obtain the qualification based on the experience you have and by maybe doing a few extra subjects? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is relatively urgent thank you in advance
