Which language should I learn to become a programmer ?

I wish to design bigger softwares in future, but I am completely blank from where to start I read about few languages on some sites but have few queries. 1. I read about C, C++, C#, VB, .NET, PHP, PERL, JAVA and JAVA Script etc. Which one should I start to learn from? as I don't want to waste money and time learning in wrong way.. 2. Are these languages are just versions eg C - C++ - C# ; VB - VB.NET ; JAVA - JAVA Script ? 3. Which one do you use to program? [If you are a programmer] 4. Any other suggestions from your side... thanks for your answers..
