I have just bought a citroen xsara picasso. How can I find out if it has had a new cam belt fitted?

It's a Diesel and has done 130,000 miles (x reg). It did not come with a service history and the garage I bought it off didn't know, although they thought it might have had the job done. Is there any way of telling? It starts and runs very well.

There is no way of telling if there's no record of it in the service history, and you can't tell by looking at it and how ell the car runs is no guide. A cambelt is either intact and the engine will run, or it breaks and the engine is scrap. Choice is yours, I'd get it done.

If the garage you bought it off dont know then they should of re-placed it, just get it done for your own piece of mind, if it breaks then the repair bill will run into hundreads of pounds, but with that age and miles its more than likey be not worth repairing.

If there is no record you have to assume that its not been done. Actually, your car should now be coming up for its second cam belt change.

They're saying it might have had the job done because of the mileage, i.e. it's way overdue if it hasn't been done... More

IT will need doing, it will have been done once cus it would have broken by 70 to 80 k so needs doing soon, car will run fine and if you don't do it it will snap and give no warning and will cause extensive engine damage, change the water pump at same time and tentioner wheel.
