What is the place where the diners sit in a restaurant called?
I recently went to a restaurant where the place where you pay is separated by a long hall from the place where you eat. I would like to know if there is a specific name the place where you eat is called. I initially though it was a dining room, but I doubted myself. I need this asap for a school essay. Any help/thoughts are appreciated! Thanks

The closest I can identify with would be some of the old hotels that had a dining room for the guests. Some guest houses also had a dining room where you got a meal each day, you sat down there, on time, and had the meal the owner made, no menu.
