Is a credit score be required for a job application?

I have been asked by two different job applications to fill out a free credit score check online that is mandatory before a in person interview can be scheduled. Its after or part of the initial screening. Is this normal? Both times I haven't completed the application because I am afraid it is a scam, since the jobs were posted on craigslist. Is this something I should expect? Does looking into your credit score affect it? I've heard mixed things.

You are actually not required to disclose your credit score when applying for a job as that is not among the requirements for employment. You credit score would matter only if you would obtain loans, buy real estate properties, and the like.

If you are working in a job that requires you to handle money or be responsible for operations related to money, many companies will do background and credit checks to (a) insure that you are trustworthy (no criminal record) and (b) that you are not in any kind of... This is a scam. They just want you to provide your personal info and pay $ towards this service. They charge you to get your score. And you'll never get an interview. If a real company needs you to pass a credit check they will pay for this themselves. And first they would want to interview you to see if your a fit... More
