What can a lawyer (with a J.D. obviously) do that would normally require a license or certification?

I know it probably varies from state to state, but what can a lawyer do that would normally require a license or certification? Essentially, what licenses does a J.D. "exempt" you from that you normally would have to have to practice that particular profession? For example: A lawyer can sell real estate and earn a commission on it, but the average person can't unless they have a real estate license. Any accurate information on this would be awesome as it is going to help decide if I am going to law school. Thanks in advance.

Lawyers don't sell Real Estate without a license or do anything else that requires one! Having a JD doesn't give you Carte Blanch.
