Can a medical assistant work as a home health aide in a nursing home?

I want to become a endoscopy/gi technician but want to get some experience on my resume. I was thinking about doing medical assistant on the United States Career Institute online and working as a home health aide first since the economy is down. Any opinions? Thanks

I have mixed feelings about MA programs because of telephone calls I have received from upset MA's who thought they could work in long-term facilities. Home health aide is usually a certified nursing assistant. A medical assistant, as you understood correctly, works in a doctor's office (i.e. a clinic). Unfortunately many private schools for MA will cost a lot of money and they tend to flood the market with many grads who are unable to get work.
