Why do job applications ask stupid questions?

You can count to ten. Agree Disagree. What kind of idiot can't count to ten? There are eighty days in a month. Agree Disagree. These questions are so stupid!

They ask some question just to make sure you're paying attention and taking time to answer. Their thoughts on the situation are that if you can't give 100% effort to filling out an application, then you sure won't give 100% to your job. It's basically testing your work ethic.

I was told at an interview that the questions like 'have you ever lied to a parent' Are to check for contradictions. So if you lie they will know and deduct points from your final score.
