Why do people think joe pa is the bad guy?

Joe pa did nothing wrong and did not deserve to be fired. People act like this is all his fault and that he never reported it. And joe pa did report it. He reported it to the athletic director or whoever while it was going on. It's the idiot athletic directors fault. And for those of you saying "he should of reported to the police", I bet none of you would of never did that either. And you have the guy who actually molested the kids and the two others who never reported it, and you look at joe as the bad guy? Come on.

He condoned horrific behavior. i dont think hes a bad guy. he just had a horrible, horrible lapse in judgment.

JoePa is also not the just the coach of Penn State, he IS Penn State. he had the most power and decided to do nothing with it. he deserves what he got.

Well I personally label everybody involved "bad guys". I think because Paterno is most powerful guy there, they put the bulk of the blame on him.
Answered By: AC Stylin - 11/10/2011
He never called the Police and neither did anyone else. A lot more people at Penn State University need to lose their jobs over this. We don't know how many sexual assaults may have taken place there over the last 40 years. The list of victims may be a lot larger than anyone imagines.

THIS IS WHY

Former Penn State player Lavar Arrington's response about Paterno's responsibilities is virtually identical to every other brain-dead "head in the sand" defensive response that seeks to trivialize Paterno's responsibilities. Arrington states he can't say Paterno abdicated his duty to report the 2002 incident BECAUSE he is not clear how much information Paterno was given about the incident. These arguments simply can not withstand scrutiny.

The fact is Paterno himself has has provided us with all the information we need to conclude he is guilty of a profound, horrendous dereliction of duty in "failing to care enough about that little 10-year old boy to follow-up and make sure the incident got reported to police." Paterno states that it "was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw." Paterno states "it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky." Now - simply put all these facts together: little 10-year old boy - in the shower with a 50-year old adult - eye-witness "was distraught" - and Paterno openly, unequivocally admits "it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky."

How much more information does one need in order to figure out that this child was being horribly abused on campus? And the only answer there can be, on these facts, is that Paterno d**n-well knew in 2002 that this was a horrific case of appalling child abuse taking place in Paterno's team locker room shower. Does Arrington mean to tell us that if that was his 10-year old boy, he would simply refer the matter to superiors WITHOUT EVER CARING about the OBVIOUS and unmistakable fact that the child abuse was NEVER REPORTED to police authorities for prosecution? What kind of a parent could care so little about such a small, innocent, defenseless 10-year old child, that they simply IGNORE the fact the perpetrator was never brought to justice - to prevent further abuse of young children? All Paterno and these Penn State authorities ever said was "just don't abuse children on our property." That is as sick and demented as the child abuse itself. We have all the information we need to conclude that Paterno and Penn State did NOT give a d**n about this little boy's welfare.

I don't know all the details, so I won't say too much about Joe Pa.

My question is this:If you KNEW an employee at work was raping kids, and you reported it to your boss but nothing was ever done, wouldn't you do something about it? Would you just dismiss it and keep working with the guy? From what I've heard, it sounds like that's what Joe Pa did.

I agree that people should talk more about Sandusky and less about Paterno.

What are you? 12 years old? Grow up and get a clue. Only ignorant fools with no concept of adult responsibilities could ever begin to rationalize the actions of Paterno and the rest of the PSU staff.
Answered By: Bill - 11/10/2011
As coach he should have went balls to the wall to ensure the safety of those kids, his players, and the reputation of Penn State. He was a man promoting honesty and character, and he should have led by example, done the hard thing, got sandusky fired, and continued on being an impressive coach/person. He didn't do those things, and therefore he shouldnt be a coach.
Answered By: Emily - 11/10/2011
He knew about the incident in 1998 and that's why Sandusky "retired". After knowing this, when he found out about the boy getting raped, he did the very minimum he had to do. (reporting to the athletic director)

They were all trying to protect the Penn State brand name and let Joe get his record.

Imagine a cop gets a call about a r**e in progress. He then realizes he has got explosive diarrhea and stops at McDonalds to take care of business. All he is "required" to do is investigate and arrest suspected criminals. He is under ZERO obligation to prevent crime. Ok, so one woman gets raped.

Joe Paterno knew this guy was a sicko since 1998 and used the "minimum required by law" excuse for 12 years.
Answered By: Pancho Villa - 11/10/2011
He did one short term thing wrong: he ignored his duty as a citizen, and never called the cops.

Then he made everything 10 times worse, by keeping the predator employed, and by helping him get exposure to more young boys.

Paterno should die in prison, in the same wing as Sandusky and McCreary.
Answered By: Will - 11/10/2011
Joe Paterno is not the victim here.

The fact remains that Paterno did about as little as he possibly could to stop Sandusky. Joe Paterno was arguably the most powerful man at Penn State University and is arguably the most well known man in the state of Pennsylvania. If Joe Paterno reports to police that Jerry Sandusky was sexually abusing a child in the Penn State shower, police would have apprehended Sandusky faster than you can read this sentence.

"Good guys" don't do as little as legally required of them and then wash their hands of a situation when the situation involves the sexual abuse of a child. "Good guys" don't then let that child molestor remain around the program for a decade following the incident. Joe Paterno certainly didn't abuse the children but he didn't stop Sandusky after he knew what Sandusky was doing either. And make no mistake, Paterno had the power stop him. THAT is what makes Paterno a bad guy in this story.
Answered By: Ben Linus - 11/10/2011
Because he IS a BAD GUY for his role.
The only difference between me and the people who feel the need top defend his actions (or horrible lack thereof) is that I am smart enough to know there can actually be more than ONE person to blame for a situation.
Actually - there is one more difference between people who realize how horribly Paterno acted and those who feel he got a raw deal.
About a million years of evolution.
Answered By: Fozzy - 11/10/2011
He did do something wrong. He's a great guy and a fantastic coach, but he made a mistake and did not do enough about it. I ABSOLUTELY would have alerted the police if I knew that something like that was going on. JoePa made a mistake by not doing that. No matter what you think of the guy, the fact is that he messed up.

It was absolutely the right decision to fire him. They need to clean these guys out of there and start fresh immediately.
Answered By: Ethan - 11/10/2011
It's like this, if a guy is so sick in the head he is molesting a little kid, I don't care if he's the strongest man in the world I'd go hit the fucker in the mouth.I don't know how you can not want to try to beat the shit out of that guy. So I think people like me think he is a bad guy for not even saying anything about it. You also have to think this guy is a coach and he had to influences some kids and everyone involved let that guy. I mean if he had a lot of influence on a player that player might be messed up for life, and Joe Paterno let that go. Paterno isn't actually the bad guy as in he did something wrong, he just didn't do anything which may have been one of the worst things to do. And since he is the most powerful man who should have done something about it and didn't is why people thinks he's the bad guy.
Answered By: Who Dat?! - 11/10/2011
The entire administration of Penn State is to blame for the actions of the college, not just one man.
But, in this day and age, you have to report everything you see to the police, I have on a number of occasions whether things are right or wrong, they are just incidents I feel need to be reported.

One call I made led to a drug raid when no one else in the neighborhood wanted to get involved. It does pay off.

Paterno has always been a disgusting human being. One time, after Penn State lost to Texas, he said that he was going to beat up his wife. True story.

Do you seriously think that in 1998 the "incident" that occurred was not the cause of Sandusky being told he would not be head coach ? He should have been reported in 1998 and never allowed on the campus again.
But no, Joepa gave him an office and access. Joepa was protecting the brand and his legacy..some legacy
now ! then 4 years later Sandusky is caught in the act and still nothing is reported to the police !
Ask Joe if his grandchildred were allowed to go to sandusky's camp !!
Read the 23 page grand jury report; it will turn your stomach .

Joe could have convinced Mike McQueary to take his story to the police instead of him telling his higher ups!
When nothing was being done he could have asked why nothing was being done.
He had time to make this right and he watched Sandusky continue to operate his football camps on the university as if he condoned his actions.
He even said "in hindsight I could have done more"
i will agree he is not the worse one in this whole story.Yet he is only loseing a job.The others are dealing with the law.
As for what me or any other person would have done/You don't know me or many others on here quit trying to assume to know what we would have done.We are not all scared little people.Joe didn't want any bad press for the university and was content to let this be covered up!i am glad this happend while he was still coaching and he was exposed for his true self! That he didn't get to go out on his own terms!

Ok, I know some of the problems a lot of us have in regards to American Football. I will address some of the common ones now in hopes that you will try and see past the ignorant labels many Brits have applied to the sport. 1. It's rugby with pads, what are they all scared to take a hit? American football is only SUPERFICIALLY similar to rugby, so get that comparison out your noggin right now, it's just wrong. It also has harder hits in areas of the body and at angles that Rugby forbids. Look at it like this. Where Rugby stops the hits with rules, American Football stops the hits with pads. 2. American Footballers are always stopping and taking breaks, this makes it VERY boring. Yes, the pace of American Football does take a long time to get used to. You have to understand the way the game is played to fully understand all the stops. It is like a field of battle, or a chess game, the coaches have hundreds of plays of dozens of formations that each have their own strengths and weaknesses when compared to what the other team's formation is, how many yards (yes they use yards) left to move the downs, how far from the endzone the ball is, how much time is left on the game clock, and several other factors after that. Each team's coach spends days each week planning out each game, and what formations they will use to exploit the opposing team's weaknesses. 3. The AF players have no skill. Yes, they do. Their skills are just very specified for each position. Look at it, again, like chess, each position, or piece, can do different things to move or stop the ball. The Running back can carry the ball for quick gains of yard. The Full back can push through a strong line of defence. A Tight end can stop an unusually strong defensive wave of pressure OR it can run out to catch the ball for a large gain. The wide recievers are used to quickly out distance the defensive players and if that's not possible to grab the ball from right in front of the defender's eyes, for a usually large gain, the Wide Reciever can even run the ball on occasion of the caoch wants to really surprise the defense. The Quarterback can run the ball for a small unexpected gain, can throw the ball to the ground to stop the game and prevent a turnover to the defense, and can throw the ball to any eligible receiver which includes, the running back, the full back, the tight end, and the wide receivers. Then there is the Offensive line. a group of massively large and strong men who's job is to stop the defense from rushing to the quarterback and ending the play quickly and usually for a loss of yards. The Tight end can become part of the offensive line at times, as can both the full and running backs. Defensive players include Defensive Tackles and Defensive Ends. Players that are only focused on getting to the quarterback before he get's rid of the ball. (The qb is nearly always the one who first touches the ball on offense) If the QB hands the ball to the RB (running back) then the defensive tackle/ defensive end is to do his best to put the RB on the ground. They are usually right on the line of scrimmage that separates the offense from the defense. Then there are linebackers. Linebacker's jobs are to stop any short pass, but mostly to make sure no run with the ball gains any positive yards. They are usually about 5 or 6 yards behind the DT/DEs. Then there are he Corner backs, they're job is to watch the reciever's and stop any medium to long gain of yards through the air,. Last is the Safeties, Strong and Free. They're job is to be the last line of defense if the other players all fail to stop the ball, as well as to guard against any deep pass. AKA your "Hail Mary" There is also the place kicker who's job it is to kick the ball in between the uprights for a score of the 3 points called field goals. The last player is the punter, he is mean to kick the ball to the recieving defense in the event that the offense is pushed back and is about to turn the ball over to the defense if they fail again. So the punter drop kicks the ball as far down the field as he can to give his defense the best chance to stop the opposing teams offense. so each position does it's own job and they all require different skills. Now I am just trying to silence some of the unfair labels we Brits have given American Football my explanation is a little shaky and missing some key info, Like rules of the game and basic game play. I suggest you find some website that goes into more and clearer detail if this has opened your mind up at all. By the way, I still love Rugby for more than A.F.. But the game does deserve a second look by many of us.

I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

Advances in technology will soon cause 70-80?nemployment in the USA. How will all those millions of people eat, then? That will lead to a conflict between Social Market-ists (gov't imposed wealth redistribution) and Free Market-ists (no gov't imposed wealth redistribution). First, the Luddite Fallacy. It WAS valid UNTIL machines could do most human mental functions better than humans. Some experts are already saying this, but generally it seems like the American Society and its leaders are proceeding in utter ignorance. You probably know about all the technologies that now exist or will soon be up & running, & which will massively reduce the need for human labor in the economy, thus MAKING MOST HUMANS UNNECESSARY to the economy. Some facts: (1) A couple weeks ago all the toll booth workers on the Golden Gate Bridge were all dismissed because the gov't bought a machine to handle everything. (2) Computer voice recognition already exists, in programs such as Siri and Google Voice and others. But very soon these programs will be so much better. Virtually all the human-staffed customer service call centers will disappear very soon. Human office receptions will be mostly eliminated. (3) McDonald's already has a prototype version of their fast food restaurant with NO human workers on site. (4) Wal-Mart & other retailers already have plans for stores with NO human cashiers. (5) Google's driverless cars and trucks will soon eliminate most drivers of commercial trucks & taxi cabs. (6) IBM's computer "Watson" defeated the best human players on "Jeopardy" about a year ago. Watson had to hear and understand host Alex Trebeck's spoken speech just like the human contestants. IBM created Watson to replace Medical Doctors. The plan is that nurses and nurses practitioners will take data from patients (temperate, blood pressure, reports of pains, etc.), enter that into Watson, and Watson will order tests and make prescriptions and treatment plans. Unlike human doctors, Watson will KNOW EVERYTHING about medical science. Doctor errors currently kill about 100,000 patients per year in hospitals alone. Patients will DEMAND to be diagnosed by Watson (or other equivalent) & have a prescription by Watson, since studies will show that patients fare so MUCH better when Watson is their “doctor,” and the cost will be MUCH less. (7) Computers are now replacing the lawyers that formerly had to spend massive hours read through massive amounts of documents turned over to the opposing side in "discovery" in civil lawsuits. Documents now are turned over in digital form, and computers search in seconds them looking for key words and phrases. (8) Soon publishers will stop printing books on paper. Everyone will have an e-Reader device. That will be the END of every physical library and bookstore. (9) Soon computers will be able to general characters in movies that are indistinguishable from real humans. Not only actors will lose their jobs, but costume people, makeup people, scene construction people, camera operators, key grips, electricians, lighting experts, etc. (10) New machines are replacing the humans who pick vegetables in fields. (11) New machines are replacing human security guards. (12) Human airplane pilots, both in the military and in commercial service, will soon be extinct. The FAA has already approved testing of drone planes for commercial transportation of non-human cargo. (13) Most trades on Wall Street are already being made by computers. (14) The U.S. Postal Service is doomed. Paying thousands of people to drive around in little trucks to deliver little printed pieces of paper to each household each day is going to seem more and more like idiocy. (15) Most of the reviews and analysis currently being done by human accountants, actuaries, tax experts, and other financial analysts and consultants will be done must better, more more quickly, and much more accurately, by computers. (16) Web sites already are using computer programs to write the text for stories that report on sports games. The program integrates the statistics from the game into a story text that seems to have been written by a human being. (17)Most education at the college and high school level will soon be done online, eliminating a massive number of workers. Thus, GIGANTIC UNEMPLOYMENT, in the range of 70-80?is coming soon to the USA. This will result in Rio De Janeiro type slums all over the USA. That will result in calls for gov't wealth redistribution, which will result in Armed Revolution, Counter-Revolution, concentration camps, & Latin American-style death squads. The rich and ultra-rich are never going to let any government get control of their wealth. Huge bloody CONFLICT is coming. * * * Politicians keep repeating the old canard that the solution is to train and retrain Americans for the "jobs of the future." But they are either morons or are lying, since anyone who thinks about it can easily see that even if every American worker had an engineering degree or a computer science degree, the economy just doesn't need that many engineers and computer scientists. * * * * * * * Why don't more people see this? Why aren't more people talking about this? We are facing soon a catastrophe in the USA (and in other places) on par of the plagues in Europe that killed half of the population in certain areas, and on par with the depopulation in Europe brought about by WWI and WWII. Sure, you can just repeat the Luddite Fallacy, and proclaim that the economy will always create enough jobs for most people to survive. But there is no law of economics that says that any law of economics will always operate the same. Laws of economics are not like the laws of physics. Economies and life forms can and do evolve in fundamental ways that make former economic models and ways of life obsolete. I'm sure the last tribe of Neanderthals were certain that nothing was ever going to change, right before the Homo Sapiens swooped down on them, chased them into a dead end canyon were other Homo Sapiens were lying in wait with big clubs. * * * * * * * * * In the past the Luddite Fallacy was valid since machines always needed the mental acuity that only human operators could provide, and machines frequently needed maintenance by skilled human hands and minds. But now machines have mental functions that equal or surpass what humans can provide in most work functions. And computers aren't so much repaired anymore as just thrown away and replaced. How many cell phone repair shops have you ever seen? Even most laptop computers are replaced rather than repaired. More and more laptop computers never even need to be repaired for years and years. In short, when the economy has no use for most Americans, all h*ll is going to brake loose, & that's coming soon. * * * * *
