how do I know if a bad breaker is the cause for my hot tub not to have power?

I just realized my hot tub has no power, I checked the breaker outside and there is a red window showing. I clicked it off and then back on, it doesnt seem to stay in the on position and red is still showing in the window, does that mean the breaker is bad? It has always worked fine before tonight just cant remember if u could see red when working or not? Its a square d box and breaker if that helps

It is likely doing its job. There's probably a ground fault somewhere in the system. Breakers trip on 'over-current / overload' and 'ground fault / short circuit' - either or both conditions. There could be a locked rotor on a pump or a short to bround. Maybe the breaker is bad, they get hot and go bad. Doesn't sound... More

You need to upgrade your breaker box because it requires more power to operate. With everything else that uses power in your home then hot tub on top of that is almost trying to add an central air unit to an older home that was not equipped for central air.

At least you know enough to click it all the way off before turning it on again. Still showing red? then replace the breaker. Are you sure the breaker is big enough for the hot tub load?

The breaker that has worked fine so far may need to be upgraded to a higher power but the other thing to think about is finding out if something inside the hot tub is causing the shortage... More

No I would say that the breaker is functioning perfectly. But your hot tub may be another matter. The red flag shows on the breaker to indicate which breaker was tripped. If the breaker tripped again shortly after resetting then there is either a short circuit or an overload condition that is causing the breaker to... More

Your wiring is shorting out somewhere in the tub motor. Turn off the breaker completely and wait 15 minutes. That gives the breaker a chance to cool down as well. Then flick it on... More

Is your hot tub inside or out? I hate to even tell you this but, ours was outside and we started having the same problem. Come to find out, rats had gotten in underneath and started eating all the wiring. Needless to say they had eaten everything so badly we had to get rid of the hot tub. Wasn't worth the money to fix... More

Turn your breaker off for about ten minutes, then flip it back on. If it trips immediately, you have a hard short somewhere in your hot tub circuit. Breakers seldom go bad suddenly. Usually they weaken over time... More
