What are the pros and cons for living in Atlanta?

My family is originally from Chicago and then moved to Australia for 4 years my dad's job, and now might be moving to Atlanta. I've never been there. I'm sure it would have way less snow in the winter than Chicago. What are other pros and cons? Where are the best places to live? What are the best schools? (Private or public) What do you think of the Atlanta based colleges (Emory, Oglethorpe, Agnes Scott)? I hope to go to Northwestern but maybe I'll apply to Emory or one of the other Atlanta schools if we move there.

As the highways are clogged here -- as in any major city -- your dad will want a reasonable commute to work -- which will dictate where you live.
