Is this an acceptable path to become a public relations specialist?

I am a high school senior and wish to become a public relations specialist in a company. I've researched several paths to take, but I wish to attend a business school and major in marketing. I've heard from several sources that this way is acceptable, and that an actual major in public relations (my business school doesn't offer this major) is unnecessary. Do you think the odds of getting a job as a public relations specialist, if I perform well in school, while majoring in marketing are good?

While marketing may go hand in hand with PR, it is essentially different. If you're not offered a chance to learn specific PR techniques, you may end up clueless while on the job. I think jobs would prefer that you had a specific major that showed that you had much experience with public relations.
