Are social workers that work for the government required to be licensed?

I have a BS in psychology, have been working as a social worker. The new job I applied for wants a "licensed social worker". Am I still eligible even though I'm not licensed? The only thing that is prohibiting me is that I have a degree in psych and not social work. Monique, my state offers a "social work technician" license. I am qualified for that. Will that help me get jobs?

You can often become licensed with your degree, but each state is different. Call the job placement number and ask.

If they're asking for a licensed social worker, I'm guessing they want a licensed social worker, and if you are not licensed you are not eligible. You can check your state on this list, but the states I looked at all required a Masters or BA in social work.
