how was it determined who would be warriors or regular workers in an ancient mesopotamia empire?

were the workers only people who were slaves and prisoners of war? was there a selection of people (besides women and children) that were picked by the king to do regular work, and ones to serve as a warrior?

No.....All the early civilizations were 'agricultural', most people were needed to farm. This was the 'main' rhythm of life then. The farmers however produced enough to feed everyone and have some left over, so about 20% of the population didn't have to farm. About 10% of these would be skilled craftsmen and 10% rulers... More
