How do broke and poor parents have babies and still manage to pay to raise them?

Hi all. How do they afford it? There's people that somehow get off of paying child support too. I just don't understand how the system works. How do these people make babies, still survive and make it? I just don't get it. What do you think? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Government assistance. And despite everyone's crappy attitude about government help, some people need it. Most people don't TRY to get pregnant just so they can get on welfare.

Well there are a lot of things that are available to help women who can't afford much when they're pregnant and have kids. For example, WIC, Medicaid... Those kinds of things are willing to work with people who don't have enough money to raise a child. It's always better to wait until you are financially stable enough... More

I was a single teen mom who went on welfare for almost a full month. I relied heavily on my parents, worked multiple jobs, and made something of myself. But too many rely on welfare. That just wasn't the life I wanted.

They don't. The kids starve while the parents smoke crack.

They don't do it well. Many live off public assistance. They cut corners, they skip meals, they take turns shutting off utilities. But really, not paying child support is LOW. Kids didn't ask to be born, but they are here now and still need care... More

Their children do without a lot of thing considered necessary by middle and upper class people. They get no vacations, no extras, no plays, trips to the museums, most have never been to a farm or picked apples off a real tree, some have never seen a cow, most never leave the city they were born in until adulthood. I'm upset that so many of the people on here have negative assumptions about "poor people" having children...especially now that a huge chunk of the population lives below the poverty line and that is while working. My mother was a single parent of 3 daughters (I am the oldest) and money was never an issue because we... More
