Career opportunities with an English degree?

I'm currently doing a degree in English. I would like to do work in an office. I was thinking secretarial work or maybe editorial assistant. Will my degree help me find a job in those areas?

Secretarial work ... You do know that by looking on any job site, you don't even need a high school diploma for that right? And will you really be happy working mininum wage unless you happen to land it big time by working for a big company paying you a whopping $20 an hour at most?
