How to gain practical electrical knowledge...?

I am mechanical engineer by profession and working in manufacturing industry. We manufacture world class furnaces, ovens etc. So my job is a assistant designer, and i am happy with it. But i want to gain some practical electrical knowledge as i need to understand the complex control panel wiring and what is the roll of each component in it. I have theory knowledge of some devices like SCR, IGBT, PLC, motors etc but i am looking for some practical knowledge or something like that. If you can suggest any book or some websites that will be useful for me. Thanks for your time.:)
