Is formal statistics knowledge necessary as a developer?

I've been doing business enterprise development for about six months now. I finished college a year ago and I hated statistics, but I love writing algorithms and databases and thats how I do my job. In a business enterprise setting, can't I just use an algorithm tailored to retrieving specific information rather than developing formal statistics models using a bunch of nonsense Greek symbols? I'm just wondering if I will need to study business statistics if I want to be a well-rounded business solution developer. Do other employers expect developers to know stuff like that?

It's not absolutely necessary, but it would certainly be good to have, especially if you intend to write financial or database software.

It isn't really necessary, but they probably expect it, but you can always develop a program that will help you with the statistics (2 but's in a sentence is a grammar error, isn't it?). Good Luck!
