Can you buy cars from an auto auction and sell from home?
I'm looking for information on buying cars from an auto auction and selling them from.... well not necessarily your home, but having them in some parking lot with a for sale sign as some extra side cash. Is a dealer's license required for this? If so, how do you go about acquiring one in the state of california? I do know that one is required after selling so many vehicles, but the part I'm confused on is do you need a lot or not? Like I said this is some extra side cash as I'm happy with my current job! I have also read about "dealers" doing the sales from home "posing" as a private party. Is this illegal? Any information would be appreciated!

You can buy cars at auction if you think you can compete with dealers who do that everyday. Personally, I feel more comfortable buying cars from craigslist and not having to compete with every dealer and other person who wants to do the same thing.

I don't know about CA specifically but usually there is nothing illegal about flipping cars as long as you declare all your profits. Just be aware that auction cars can be tricky. You may end up with a car that requires more repairs than you anticipated or you may overpay for a vehicle and end up selling it for a... More
