Losing weight with dodgy thyroid?
After askin questions about losing weight, explaining that I often exercise and eat healthily and have still been gaining weight, I annoyingly get responces saying that the solution is to eat healthily and exercise.. I have since discovered the real reason for the weight gain is that my thyroid glad is not doing its job, I also found out that this can be counteracted by eating foods high in iodine (i prefer natural metods than to start on any medication immediately), however this would mean that I will be increasing my intake of food in order to try and lose the extra weight. I have a list of food that has iodine but was just wondering if anyone has this problem and have succeeded in losing the weight or is the pill that the dr will prescribe the only way? Thanks in advance I dont think i eat healthy and exercise often.. i KNOW i do, the weight gain was down to the underactive thyroid, not a delusion that I think pizza hut is healthy and climbing into bed is exercise.. the question is about the thyroid.. also .. to all that also have this problem, how long after taking this hormone, did it take you to get back to your usual weight?

Yes it may be annoying to say but you need to eat healthy and exercise. You may think you are eating healthy but have you added up the calories and nutrition (grams of fat, protein, carbs) and looked at them? What do you consider "often" exercise? Once a week? Twice a week... More

The pills the doctor gives you is replacing the hormones that your thyroid doesn't produce. Eating foods with iodine in may help a little but nothing can replace hormones apart from pills and your body cannot function normally with a hormone imbalance.

Congrats! You've taken the first step. MANY people have hyper-thyroidism or a consequential subset of which, that causes either weight gains or makes is very difficult to reduce body fat. This is not a "flaw", it's just how your body is reacting - and it's very normal. You did nothing to "cause" this. In fact, you... More

I was a professional ballet dancer with a dodgy thyroid and the ONLY way I was able to successfully lose and maintain my weight was to use a thyroid supplement. I didn't rush to my doctor right away, either. I went to the health foods store and bought a natural thyroid replacement supplement but you don't even have to... More
