Police Officers to have to undergo fitness tests on a yearly basis. Is this fair?

If they fail the fitness test they will lose part of their pay. This seems a bit unfair to me although I think that they should be fit. Is it another way to get rid of front line Officers?. No answers about donuts pleeze Lol.

Yes it fair because if a bad guy is running away, you need to be able to catch them.

They should be fit and should maintain it its part of the job to be active so if they fail to keep it up they are failing to carry out their job and are willingly accepting that they are inadequate so why should they be paid the same as a bloke or women who has to peg it after criminals... More

Well, they should be given 3 times to make up the test before losing their pay since sometimes someone is sick.

Civilians have to be a certain level of fitnes in our jobs, so why isn't it fair to expect the police to be fit? They need to attain a certain level of fitness so they can do the rather demanding job that it sometimes is, just like the armed forces have to to do, whether they are infantry front line, or flying a desk... I was shocked to hear that it was not already happening. The Services have to be fully fit at all times, so why not the Police. UK

Currently, if an officer is medically unable to do full duties, the law says that they must, if possible, be given a job they are capable of doing. This means that there are a large number of officers on full pay effectively doing 9 to 5 clerical jobs. For... More

Off course they should be required to take fitness tests. Do you really want a load of lardarse coppers on the street (or should I say more than we have now)?
