Why can't we fire members of congress for not doing their jobs?

If I was to go to work and not get anything accomplished I would lose my job, and rightfully so. All I want to know is why we can't fire elected officials for the same reason.

because we technically hired them by electing them, same thing with the president. You have to let them finish their term. Every time there is an election, we have a chance to fire a member of Congress for not getting the job done by voting for someone else.

the Constitution provides for the House of Representatives being up for election every two years -- one-third of the Senate must face the voters in home state each election year
