What are my chances of making $60k+?

I'm an up and coming machinist. I know every nook and cranny about manual machining from my high school course thats been two years long. I'm going on to college to learn everything about CNC machining. There are plenty of jobs in the industry but I'm not sure if being a CNC programmer/ operator will pay off in the long run. Pratt & Whitney and the Porstmouth naval shipyard are two likely places i could land a job with a starting pay around $20 an hour with plenty of overtime. Is anyone experienced in the professional end of this field that could tell me what the averages are for someone as experienced as I? Trust me, building steam engines and telescope components is experience. I suppose there's things I haven't experienced first hand, but I know quite a bit considering manual machining is going out the door in the industry. Could people specify what experience or where they get information from with their answers.
