If customer service is so important then why are clerks paid so low?
I've worked several customer service jobs, usually you're not trained very well, its mostly sink or swim, and there is an extremely high turnover rate. Jobs that are valued in society usually do pay more. Why do companies insist that customer service is important but pay poorly for these positions?

like you said, high turnover, lots of people willing to do the job. nurses do an important job but get paid a pittance.
