Sitting at hospice talking to a lady who's son Is dying of brain cancer...?

My sister is at hospice for end stage cancer and I was sitting in the common room talking to a lady that her son is here dying of a brain tumor and our conversation has me depressed in the society we live in. She said that her 42 year old son ignored some symptoms, for a long time because he didn't have insurance until he finally had to break down and go to emergency room where he was given a MRI, cat scan something to diagnose him with an aggressive brain tumor. He could not get into a place that was recommended cancer centers of America she saiid because of no insurance and applied for Some government assistance and didn't get it because he wasnt old enough. Anyways she said he just waited and waited and here he is in hospice where his parents are paying out of pocket to watch their son die! They are paying their money not to watch him and help him live but to help him die with dignity and pain meds. My sister had good insurance and that couldn't save her but could he have gotten good treatment? He assumed no insurance no treatment and here he is at hospice. I find this terribly saddening. Just sitting here venting guess it's not really a question but more of a of we lived in Canada or some other places insurance isn't an issue

Oddly enough, countries with socialized medicine - Canada and the UK, have LOWER cancer survival rates, than we have here in the USA. You're odds of living with cancer, are much greater here in the USA, even if you have no insurance. So you are misdirecting your rant.

All treatment (except organ transplants, which won't work for brain cancer anyway) are available without insurance. Organ transplants (which won't work for brain cancer) are the only treatment for which you need insurance. Every other treatment is available without insurance... More
