Your wife should apply, as Canada is welcoming English speaking Doctors, as a priority. Her qualifications in the UK will be easy to transfer to Canada. Our system is close to what the NHS is, in terms of how they practice and billing systems.
With her as the primary applicant, you should have little to no trouble getting a Permanent Resident status for both of you.
A few facts about Canada, the biggest single item in both our Federal and Provincial budgets is "Education " followed closely by " Health Care ". More than 50 percent of Canadian adults hold at least one University degree, some have more. We are a huge country, second largest in the world, after Russia, with five time zones in the country. But our total population is only about HALF of that of the UK, so we are NOT crowded, at all. Our population density is low, compared to any European country. Our economy is strong, and we continue to create NEW jobs month after month.
Remember that Canada is a NEW world country, with no buildings that are older than 400 years, and most of this country's cities were built in the late 19th and 20 century, so our roads system, and city streets were built for automobiles, not horses and wagons, as in Europe.
WE love the outdoors, and this weekend, the Victoria Day holiday, is the official kick off of our summer fun season. As I write this, sitting in Toronto,. the highways leading out of the city are starting to pick up traffic, as about a million people head off to "Cottage Country" in the lake district, tow to three hours drive to the north of Toronto. This is a "three day weekend " with Monday a day off work for most people here. During the summer here, from May to October, we have lost of things to do with our time off work.
Ontario, the province in which Toronto is the capital city, has the largest population of any of the 10 Provinces in Canada, at about 12 million, and it is just about TWICE the size of Texas, in square mile area. Quebec is even bigger. Ontario has so many lakes that many are not named, just numbered.
Compared to the UK, on the social side, we don;t have the lager louts and gangs, and youth drinking binges, and our towns and cities provide lots of free sports and recreation facilities. About one out of every three Canadian adults is a volunteer in their community, and we are very generous to our charities, and food banks. Canada is rated as one of the five best countries in which to live. On that same ranking the UK was 41st.
Here is the main information website for Canadian Citizenship and Immigration. You are looking for a Permanent Resident application for professionals, with your wife as the primary applicant.
As a Medical Doctor, she is in one of the VERY required " In Demand " professional occupations, and as a native English speaker, she is a star, for sure. Her professional qualifications will be dead easy to vet, and approve.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp You are both the type of applicants that will be sure to thrive in Canada. Well educated, native English speakers, and young enough to be here for a life time, and have a great future for your kids.
