Has anyone ever interviewed for a job and not gotten it, but then a few months later be contacted about it aga?

I interviewed with a company for a total of 8 hours. I felt it went very well, but eventually after a month of waiting and during this time inquiring about where they were in their decision making process, I was told they chose another candidate. A few months later, the original HR recruiter contacted me to say they were interested in me for a similar role. Does this mean that an offer is inevitable? I'm just curious if this is typical and usually is a solid sign that I would get the job?

Obviously it's a good sign that they are interested in you, but it's also obvious from your previous experience with them that nothing is assured until they have offered you a job.
