How do you start your life over when you don't know where to begin?

I'm about to turn 45. I have no job, no car of my own (my husband and I share one car), no direction. I never thought about what I was going to do with my life and now, I'm paying the price for it. Is it possible to start over and correct the stupid mistakes I made? My best years are gone and I feel so old and becoming hopeless. Do you ever look back and wish you could do it all over again?
