Teens: Do you think this would result in world peace?

*note: I am talking about peace between countries and identified territories, this DOES NOT include extremist groups such as Al-Qaida. So i had this idea for an essay to write for my schools literary magazine. Let's say if an extremely large asteroid, such as 9 Metis, which is hundreds of kilometers in diameter, were to be set on an orbit that intersects with Earth due to unknown quantum fluctuations in gravity. Let's also say that this asteroid, at some point in the future, is found to have a certain impact with earth. An asteroid of nearly 200 miles in diameter would set off on explosion of closed to 900 teratons, which translates to 900 trillion tons of dynamite, while the atomic bombs dropped in japan were only about 35 million tons of dynamite. The meteor that killed the dinosaurs was only 93 trillion tons of dynamite. As you can tell, an asteroid of this size, with no evasive action, would result in the extinction of all life on earth. There fore, if no one could possibly survive this disaster, it would take every single technological scholar and genius from around the world to determine how to deflect or destroy such a giant asteroid. I think that, every single country in the world would be obligated to donate money towards this space project, as they have nothing to lose if the world is going to end, yet everything to gain if it can be avoided. This way, i think that almost all nations on earth would be united around one common cause and goal, and that in itself would cease the fighting because we are no longer each other's enemy. Your thoughts? @Joko: First of all, i do not believe any leader of a nation would put their own beliefs before the safety and security of the people. And even so, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity do not describe the end times or the rapture with something as severe as an asteroid.

On the off chance such scientists will actually be able to evade certain death, sure; the world would be a happy, dandy place for all of a century or two. After that, human nature will take its course, and war will break out again... More

nah, humans will be humans, we will kill each other until something else kills us all (dark but true)

That's a very interesting topic. Well, yes, I think it would. Because if no one would work together, everyone would die, and well, that would suck. I think we can all agree on that.

No, there are going to be nations that have leaders who believe that it is God's will, or they believe in an unrealistic way of saving the Earth.
