Why do the Russian aircraft carriers slant up in front but ours don't?
Are they shorter than ours like the British ones? Or is it because they dont launch at an angle like ours? It appears looking at this picture at this link that they DO launch at an angle like we do, which makes me all the more confused as to why they would need that upward lip at the front.. do they launch from the angle like ours, or off the end with the raised lip? If they don't launch of the end, what is the lip for? If they do launch off the raised end, why so different from ours, which technology is better and why does the other not adopt the better method/design?

They don't have catapults. The ramp helps aircraft get airborne without the assistance of the catapult.
