My advice is to look for a type of job that you like, go for the interview and see if you get the job first. If you do then leave the job that you don't like. It is much harder to look for a job when your out of work yourself.

Make friends with the folks you work with to help make working more interesting. If you've a lot of free time where you aren't expected to do anything then get a hobby and you can dabble at it during down times.

Companies love good employees. If an when they see you're doing a good job they will naturally try to increase your responsibilities. If your supervisor hasn't done this then you might infer it to her or the next up in management. More responsibility will mean more pay and probably more training.
