How did Bush Jr get away with the WMD claims?

In WWII, Russia faked NOT having thousands of good tanks, and that backfired also. Wukong- I see you are well versed in the ideals of the modern conservative.

He got away with it because the media were asleep and the right protested calling people who dared criticise him "Anti-American" and calling into question their patriotism and loyalty. There was also a certain amount of scare tactics - right-wing commentators and politicians ramped up the threat - Condoleeza Rice... More

He was fed the same intelligence information that Britain and France and other countries received which indicated that Saddam had them. Saddam apparently faked having them, and he did such a good job of faking it that it eventually cost him his life. Remember, Congress approved going into Iraq on the same information... More

Everyone believed it across two governments. It wasn't some scheme that Bush Jr. dreamed up by himself. I'm not saying he doesn't have a lot of blame, I'm just saying that it was more of an intelligence mishap.

By deliberately relying on faked intelligence provided by Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, gathered by the German security services and passed on to the Americans (including advice of doubts of veracity). The motive for the over-reliance on this information should be apparent.

"get away with"? It was thought to be true at the time. There was credible evidence and we still don't know that they didn't simply truck stuff out of there once people began sniffing around. "get away with?" That's an insolent thing to say. What basis do you have to say that?

Lars, you should understand the difference between political and historical before you post an obviously biased opinion in the form of a question. But it was our GIs who were killed in WW2 defending people's right to state opinions like yours while countries like yours were too fearful to fight.
