If Conservatives are so intent on self-reliance and avoiding government assistance, then why is it that those?

counties in New York State which most consistently vote Republican also happen to be the ones with the highest rates of unemployment, the greatest number of people receiving food stamps and liheap payments, the highest percentage of their population living on long term disability and the highest high-school drop out rates?,_New_York#Demographics,_New_York Also, these two counties are both more than 90% white.

I agree. Notice that republicans destroy unions and ship jobs overseas. Doing that causes the need for social services So what's their solution? Why ship more jobs overseas and bust more unions of course. Of which puts America on a downward spiral to the bottom.

If Republicans didn't like government assistance, then Exxon Mobil wouldn't be getting millions of dollars of taxpayer-funded subsidies every year. They LOVE welfare - they just prefer it to be directed to corporations and the wealthy.

Its called population density. Your per capita density in New York City is far higher than in the northern counties. Most industries in Syracuse, Albany, and the I-90 corridor are gone. There is not much burger flipping business or drug dealing in those areas as there is in NYC.
