How does locking people up for having drugs help them?

Is it crazy that we have the largest prison population in the world and most of the charges are drug related? I guess its job security for the justice system and the prison industrial complex. Because history tells us prohibitions works right??

They have the opportunity (at least in my state) to get treatment. It also gets them off the streets so that there is one less s*****g to worry about breaking in to your home or stealing your car to sell for drugs.

Exactly. There are politicians in several states that have had prison operators donate big money to their campaigns. Then there are mandatory minimums, etc. The USA is addicted to imprisoning people, and any kind of rehabilitation programs come only after an addict has been sentenced to 20 years in prison - when it's... It's more for the people than it is the offender. The offender should have had better sense before being locked up. Society should be presumed innocent, as this is how our justice system is intended to work.

Do you think they care about helping them? They want it to remain illegal because sometime in the near future all of our prisons will be privatized.

You people think you can't get drugs in american prisons? You're more likely to score some china white heroin in prison then you are on the outside! This moves people who've been imprisoned for having a gram of weed with the heroin and oxy addicts. American prisons are backwards, to say the least.
