conversation for when with boyfriends parents...?

I have really big problems with socializing, to the extent that even when with a large group of FRIENDS I become quiet and am useless with conversation: let alone with my newly met boyfriends parents. People say to just relax and conversation will come naturally; I've tried this numerous times and I'm still struggling with awkward silences. Ideally I need some ideas for actual conversation topics, which can be easily incorporated into conversation, as well as ways of starting conversations, particularly ones which are appropriate for when talking to my boyfriends parents. Some people may think I sound ridiculous for struggling with something so simple, but i would much appreciate some advice- not cruel comments. Thanks :)
