Where can I find information on the rights of video editors?

Anyone know any good legal resources that states what rights a video editor has under a work for hire agreement? Need more info other than just " you own nothing" there has to be some laws or more legal information, because if its simply "you own nothing" then why would anyone put in the time and effort to be a video editor, if there was nothing to protect you then you would be screwed every time you work. There has to be more information, I've been googling but maybe my terms are not strategic enough.

You have the same rights as any OTHER employee, depending on the state where you live/work. Also you have whatever rights are SPELLED OUT in your contract. Nothing more, nothing less. That wasn't so hard.
