What are some good tips/requirements to get accepted into a gooduniversity?

I'm looking at universities such as Columbia, Cornell, or New York university What are some good tips(resume/application) what are some recommendable requirements? GPA, SAT score, community service, athletics, etc! Please help me, thank you.

Comm. service needs to be in something you're interested in, try to accumulate apprx. 150+ hours throughout your high school career. Sophomore summer and junior summer spend weekdays doing community service for a few hours, and you'll rack up 200 hours in no time, which will be expected at Columbia, Cornell, and NYU... More

Pretty much everyone applying to those schools has the highest grades in the hardest classes and very high test scores. You need more than that to have a shot at a top school. You need something that makes you stand out - something not every other top student is already doing, something related to the field you want... More

Its true that you will need more then top grades in college level courses. To get accepted to an ivy league school you will need to really standout. If you have the time to dedicate, I would suggest trying to start a non-profit organization or something along those lines. Also, sad but true, being white nowadays... More
