Would the jury selection setup work in selecting our politicians?

I served on a jury a couple of years ago and was impressed by how the other jurors approached the job. They were serious and honest, and brought all their life experience and commonsense into it. Would this be better for parliamentary democracy than political parties running the joint? They could be drafted to serve, I dunno, one or three year terms with all the perks our present MPs get. American model? That's just cronyism. You could end up with Cheney Rumsveld Rove and co. Nope, I'd rather rely on the good sense of random ordinary citizens. Aussie- mere details

How about adding the American model of selecting ministers on intelligence, hard work and competence over just being marginally more acceptable to voters that the candidate that came second. Sounds good in theory but who would pick them ? If it was random by ballot you could get any number of people with no experience of how the system works , with no common sense , no life experience or worse still , a bunch of total no hopers... More
