Are recovery drinks important after exercise?

I've read about "recovery drinks" like chocolate milk after exercise. Is there any truth that chocolate milk is beneficial post-workout, or is just water sufficient?

The milk would help because of the protein it contains... If you want a lower calorie recovery drink buy some protein powder and mix with water...

Anything with protein is good if you want to prevent sore muscles and get your energy back quicker. You should drink water after you exercise, too.

Of course. After a workout , you need a drink that restors the nutrients lost in your muscles/body during a workout. Chocolate Milk might be an alternative but a better choice would be Gatorade Recovery drink or any type of protein shake you could find in a convenience store. Water quenches thirst but doesn't have any... More

You are suppose to wait half a hour after working out to take anything after half a hour has passed you can drink mussels shake Gatorade sells them. They taste nasty at times but they get the job done and they do help
