Could I ever be a professional ballet dancer?

Okay, first off, I'm not one of those girls who are like "I'm 15 and I take one ballet class and week and I want to be the best ballerina in a professional ballet company." I've read some answers to questions on here, and I know that it takes a lot to be a professional dancer, and that you have to start training for it at a very young age. I'm 13 years old and I started dancing when I was 10. I dance at a small local studio I take about 10 hours of dance a week, five hours of that is ballet and an hour of that is pointe. I just got on pointe about a month ago. I would love to audition for a real ballet school in New York City to go year-round, because I live only two hours away, but my parents aren't willing to pay for it or make the commitment. So, for now I'm stuck at the local studio I go to. But if I work really hard here, and increase the amount of ballet I take as I get older, and maybe audition for some summer intensives along the way, do you think I could get into any dance colleges when I'm old enough? And then from college make it into a small ballet company? Or does it not work like that, and you have to go to a professional school starting from younger than my age? Don't be afraid to be honest, because all I want is the truth. I won't get offended or anything. As for my body, I'm 5'5 and 110 pounds. I have generally long legs and pretty high arches and decent ankles. I'm pretty sure I don't have the "perfect ballet body". Thanks in advance for any answers, it means a lot.

I suggest in January and February you audition for a good summer intensive program of a ballet company that is a feeder school to a major ballet academy. DANCE magazine and Pointe magazine January Issues (comes out in December) lists all of the auditions. Schools to... More
